Get Inside The Inner Room

Jack Gastelbondo and Mark Diestler worked together on several projects ranging from short films to documentary style interviews for several years. They decided to work on "The Inner Room" (www.TheInnerRoomMovie.com) as their first feature length film. Mark produced the film, among other jobs; while, Jack wrote, directed, and edited. They relied on Vegas Pro to help make it happen.

"The Inner Room" is a feature-length thriller about a couple who visit a remote cabin to work on their relationship following a tragic event.  White visiting the cabin, Julianne (Jessica Duffy) becomes disturbed with horrific visions, calling her sanity into question.  She starts to see a world full of nightmares which seem to beckon her.  She realizes her life may be in danger with no one left to trust.  In the end, she must decide whether to follow her obsession or to let go in order to survive.

Because of the low budget nature of the movie, they both had to fulfill numerous roles in the production to keep costs down. For example, Mark served as the assistant director on the set while Jack doubled as cinematographer while directing.

Jack founded Two Sided Productions five years ago and hasn't put the camera down ever since. He has worked on thriller films and experimental shorts.

Mark started Red Giant Productions in Denver and has been making high quality content for many years.

Jack and Mark worked on a dozen films together and had a couple of shorts play at the Starz Denver Film Festival, as well as numerous other film festivals around the world. Their main goal was to make a feature film, create narrative content within the digital film world, and continue making high quality productions into the future.  They formed a joint venture, The Inner Room, LLC, in order to combine their efforts in producing their first feature film.

Their first short film with Jack directing and Mark producing was "The Clearing." This was a 10 minute film shot entirely in Denver, CO. It went on to win some awards and played numerous film festivals around the globe. Several films later, they finally decided to take a leap into the feature film world and began work on "The Inner Room." The film was shot during the summer of 2010 in a cabin outside of Fairplay, Colorado. The film was shot over three weeks with a small cast consisting of Jessica Duffy ("Ink"), Marty Lindsey ("The Zodiac"), David Dalton ("Swing Vote"), and Kristin Keating ("Mind's Eye"). "The Inner Room" can be downloaded directly from the official website: www.TheInnerRoomMovie.com or purchased on DVD from most major retailers.

Jack has been a loyal fan of Sony Vegas. He started editing with Version 5 when he bought his first camera, and has been using Vegas Pro exclusively ever since for all of his editing needs.

Jack has always loved Vegas Pro because it uses a simple interface, making digital video extremely easy to edit.  He feels the color correction tools are as effective as any other software product on the market. He has over a hundred presets saved which he uses regularly as a starting point for different films. This means that he can store a whole chain of looks tailored to a specific tone for a given scene. For example, he has several de-saturated palettes mimicking the bleach bypass look that is popular with some current films. For a warmer moment, he has over a dozen mid colors ranging from yellow to a soft red with the three wheel color correction and secondary filters as well as levels. This can really save time when trying to meet a deadline.

He also likes the affordability of Vegas Pro, an important aspect for any filmmaker working on a budget.

Further, he relies on the application's powerful audio filters. While editing "The Inner Room," Jack writes that the "audio captured on location was a complete disaster." From constant generator hum to handling noise on boom poles and pops from the tin roof on the cabin - using Vegas Pro, Jack was able to clean up all of these issues. Watching the film, you would never know there were so many audio issues captured during the production.  Jack concludes that "having that much power in one single program leaves Vegas Pro getting dirty looks from its more expensive competitors."

Jack goes on to write that "every project I have been involved in has been edited in Sony Vegas Pro. Here are some to name a few: The Clearing (multiple award-winning film), Souvenir, Scare Tactics and The Inner Room."

He goes on to state that he's a Vegas Pro fan because "it does what it promises.  Plain and simple. It allows me to skip a lot of extra steps and get to the core of my vision.  Life is short.  Get Vegas Pro!"
