Coming up during the reign of X Clan's "Funkin' Lesson," Henry Willis (a.k.a. lukecage) has emerged as a modern day funk hero for hire! Ever since his early days playing in grade school bands alongside Ivan Zawinul (son of the legendary Joe Zawinul), lukecage has been sharpening his musical skills. An accomplished pianist, saxophonist, and percussionist, the young Henry was tutored by Bobby Bradford, whose student roster reads like a who's who of jazz, including John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Jumping genres from punk, ska and reggae, to jazz and hip-hop, Henry played in The Bleeding Lizards with Brendon Lynch, The Congregation with Kevin Sandbloom, The Animal Farm with Black Sonshine's Masauko Chipembere, and Fishbone with Angelo Moore. In the realm of songwriting and arranging, Henry has worked with a diverse sample of soul, funk, and hip-hop artists, including Joi Jones, Kenneth Crouch, Gina Murrell (Daddy Uroy/Amiel Larrieux), Brian Jackson (Gil Scott Heron), and many others. lukecage aspires to change the face of popular music and spark independent thoughts and actions.
