Playing for Success

In the UK's Derby County, children are improving their competence and skills in information and communication technology (ICT) and having fun at the same time. Last year, Playing for Success coordinator Jeremy Biddulph introduced the students at his after-hours study center to two exciting products from Sony Creative Software: ACID
® Music Studio and Vegas
® Movie Studio™+DVD software. With Jeremy's help, the students use the software to create their own music and videos that they can share with friends and family.
Playing for Success is a Department for Education and Skills initiative in the United Kingdom, established in 1997 in partnership with the Football Association Premier League, the Nationwide League, their clubs and Local Authorities. Through the Playing for Success initiative, the department has established 89 after-hours study support centers to date that help approximately 40,000 students each year improve their skills in reading, math, and ICT.

"We use ACID Music Studio software with KS2, 3 and 4 and it has never failed to motivate children and improve their competence and skills in ICT," Jeremy says. "It is fun, easy to use, and produces great results. Kids love it and you may have to drag them off it!"
Derby students use Vegas Movie Studio+DVD software to create finished pieces of video. The videos are shown to around 400 people on awards celebration evening. Jeremy says that the videos "invariably" get a standing ovation from parents, other students, and teachers at the event.
"We have used Sony Creative Software products at the Derby County study support center for over a year and we still enjoy it when children go 'wow' using this software" says Jeremy. "Nothing else comes close to the versatility and fun of these products."
