Recording and playback
Whether you are recording high-fidelity audio in stereo or multichannel formats, Sound Forge™ Pro 10 software provides the tools for professional results. Accurately monitor audio levels using VU meters for RMS playback and recording, use the record timer and threshold-based recording for various tasks, and use new performance optimizations for improved speed and productivity.
Multichannel audio recording
With Sound Forge Pro 10 software, you can record multichannel audio when using multichannel sound devices. Each audio stream can set to a particular channel, and be edited in the Sound Forge interface just like a stereo file.
Scenarios where you could use Sound Forge Pro 10 software for multichannel recording include:
- Using surround microphones and preamps for recording in multichannel configurations
- Legal recording and transcription
- Recording audio for a multichannel surround sound environment in real time, including Foley work and individual instruments
- 5.1 multichannel recordings for television and other broadcast formats
- Recording and preparing files for use on surround sound DVDs
- Recording multichannel audio streams from streaming content such as multichannel .wma files
- Recording multiple sources simultaneously, including voice, telephone, radio station, or other sound sources
- Recording for video game developers for delivery in multichannel format
Automated time-based recording
Items may be scheduled to record on a recurring basis. Choose start time, duration, and end time. Items may be scheduled to record on minute, daily, or weekly timeframe.
ASIO driver support
Use low-latency ASIO™ drivers , providing faster, professional results, and support of additional sound cards. With ASIO, it's possible to monitor the program's output in near real time so you can hear (for example) any clipping that occurs in the converters feeding Sound Forge software.

New! Performance optimizations
Sound Forge Pro 10 software includes a new global media cache option, which allows customization of the amount of RAM to reserved for media read from or written to disk, resulting in improved performance and speed when editing and processing files.
VU meters
Accurately determine RMS volume levels and provide greater perceived loudness control when mastering audio projects.
