The Vegas Pro 12 workflow
Utilize the fully customizable workspace in Vegas Pro 12 to create a welcoming environment for any type of content creation. Dock multiple windows and save layouts to fit certain tasks, like color correction or multitrack audio mixing. Vegas Pro 12 features a new ground-breaking workflow for Sony S-log customers, using the ACES (Academy Color Encoding System) color space standard to maintain the full dynamic range of the source material throughout the editing process. Use application scripting extensions to automate repetitive tasks. Closed captioning support and a new Proxy workflow add to Vegas Pro 12's versatility.
New! Smart Proxy workflow
Create high-performance, edit-friendly Smart Proxy clips in the Project Media view, to achieve faster playback on a wider variety of hardware. Media will automatically and dynamically switch from original to proxy based on the Preview playback settings. To ensure optimum quality, original media files will be used for the final render.
New! Comprehensive S-log workflow
S-log is a system that allows cameras such as the Sony PMW-F3 to capture images with amazing dynamic range and tonal reproduction. Using OpenColorIO technology developed by Sony Pictures Imageworks, Vegas Pro 12 supports S-log via the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) color space standard. Based on the creative goals and display devices available, Vegas Pro 12 applies the appropriate LUT (Look-up Table) during the editing process. The edited project can be encoded to a wide range of formats using ACES-defined color space standards as well as other popular non-ACES standards.
New! Vertical docking windows
Tailor the Vegas Pro editing environment to your exact needs. The added flexibility of vertical docking windows in Vegas Pro 12 provides better access to a wider range of editing tools.
New! Share media between multiple projects
Media and bins can be imported from one Vegas Pro project to another. Bins can be merged with existing bins in the current project, or a new "master bin" can be created that contains the complete bin structure from the older project. NOTE: (1) Media must be online, (2) subclips are imported, (3) Generated Media is not currently imported.
New! Text & Titles auto rename
Titles created with the Titles & Text plug-in will be named based on the actual content of the title instead of the current generic naming convention (Text 1, Text 2, etc.), making the titles much easier to identify in the Project Media window and other areas in the Vegas Pro UI.
New! Render progress and completion indicators
Render progress is now displayed in the Windows taskbar, and a user-definable sound is played upon the completion of a render.
New! Auto-prompt to match project to media
The "Match Project to Media" auto-prompt appears when the first piece of video media is added to the project, serving as a friendly reminder that can easily be de-activated at any time.
Better playback – faster renders. Take advantage of the power of the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) found in many of today's most popular video display cards for smoother video playback and faster rendering. Vegas Pro 12 leverages the GPU for video effects, transitions, compositing, pan/crop, track motion, and encoding. With an optimized hardware configuration using an appropriate GPU device, timeline performance is dramatically improved. Higher resolution previews with multiple effects are now possible in Vegas Pro 12, and encoding to popular formats like AVC are as much as six times faster than previous versions. Vegas Pro 12 uses OpenCL™-supported devices from AMD, NVIDIA and Intel to unleash your creative vision. Supported GPU devices
Utilize the outstanding video production environment of Vegas Pro to create content with closed captioning or to work with content that already contains it. Vegas Pro provides a complete end-to-end closed caption workflow. Import, edit, move, merge, delete, create new, preview, and export CEA-608 closed-caption data in XDCAM MFX and MPEG-2 media. Display TV-like CEA-608 as an overlay during playback in the Preview and Trimmer windows. This makes it easy to check placement, edits, and timing of CC information. CEA-708 style closed captioning is automatically created when the CEA-608 data is created. Line 21 closed captioning is supported, as well as HD-SDI closed captioning capture and print from AJA and Blackmagic Design cards. Line 21 support provides a workflow for existing legacy media.
Optimized "Render As" dialog
Select the perfect render template with the improved Render As dialog settings. Match the render settings to your Project Properties, select from the preset list of options, or customize your own render settings. You can even designate templates as 'favorites' for quick access later.
Playback and editing
Play back and edit video effects, transitions, and composites on the fly while viewing each change instantly. Vegas Pro software takes advantage of the PC's processing power by caching complex processes or effects directly to RAM for smooth frame-rate playback and previews.
Customizable keyboard mapping
Customize Vegas keyboard commands to fit your editing style. Create new keyboard shortcuts, import a keyboard mapping scheme or save your current layout for use as a backup. You can even share keyboard layouts with other Vegas users.
Group and collapse tracks under a single header track to save space on the timeline. This is a quick and easy way to organize and manage complex projects by grouping specific sections of video and audio.
