Field Report: Vegas Pro 9Vegas Pro software
Audio for Video, by Tom Gauger

While working on a video of a top twenty act for NBC's America's Got Talent this past year, editing was quick and easy inside Vegas Pro 9. I am a big fan of ripple editing. When I'm on a deadline scoring TV spots for major ad agencies, ripple editing is an invaluable tool. The ability to cut pieces of video or music, and have all existing video and audio on separate tracks move together as a unit, is an incredible time saver. Click here to continue Tom Gauger

Three Effects Options in Acid Pro 7
by Craig Anderton

ACID Pro softwarePlug-in effects are a crucial part of today's musical projects, and Sony Acid Pro 7 software's new Mixing Console makes it easy to use plug-ins. But note that Acid can insert audio plug-in effects in three different ways; it's important to understand which option is most appropriate for the sound you want.

Insert FX plug into a specific channel, and affect only that channel. Common insert effects include Compressor, Distortion, Delay, Chorus, and Flange/Wah-Wah, although almost any effect is potentially useful. Adding more effects connects them in series (e.g., one effect's output feeds the next effect's input). Click here to continue

Camp Bisco
Camp Bisco Winners
Five first place winners and one grand prize winner have been selected for the Camp Bisco remix contest held at ACIDplanet.com.

Aspiring DJ/producers from around the country had the opportunity to remix top artists including the Disco Biscuits, The Orb, Dr. Dog, Telepath and John Brown's Body. After much deliberation and several days spent poring over hundreds of entries, The Maniac All-Stars were selected as the grand prize winner for their "Rebirth" remix of the song "Subterfuge" by live electronica band Telepath.

The track went to the top of the Acidplanet charts the day before the contest ended. The Maniac All-Stars are a production duo is made up of brothers Antonio "DJ Satisfaction" and Dennis Gonzalez from Philadelphia, PA. The All-Stars are relatively new to Acidplanet, but have won several remix contests including VH1's The Score to create the theme song for the 2007 Hip-Hop Honors Show.

The Maniac All-Stars win a unique performance opportunity to spin a primetime Friday afternoon set at Camp Bisco between Planet Mu recording artist Starkey and Chicago DJ collective the Orchard Lounge. Four other finalists will receive a prize pack that includes Festival passes with backstage access, ACID Pro 7 software, ACID loop libraries and one year subscriptions to Remix and Electronic Musician magazines.

"We were thrilled with the tracks submitted through ACIDplanet online remixing community and will look to make this an annual promotion," said Jonathan Fordin, President of MCP Presents, the promoter of Camp Bisco 8.

"I can't wait to hear what the Maniac All-Stars bring to the stage," Fordin remarked.

Cutting with the Vegas Pro multi-camera editing tools
by Gary Rebholz

Vegas Pro softwareWith high-quality cameras getting more and more affordable, a growing number of editors are now faced with cutting together multiple camera shoots that consist of two, three, four, or even more cameras that have simultaneously shot the same scene. There are also many times when you might shoot the video separately, but still want to cut back and forth between multiple video streams. For instance, think of a music video, documentary, or any film with several different points of view. You might have only one camera, but you could shoot the band or subject performing or speaking multiple times from different angles so that you have editing options. You'll still need to cut back and forth between all of those video streams.

Naturally, as the number of video streams in the project grows, so too does the complexity of your editing decisions and tasks. One thing that you know for sure you don't need is a video editing application that compounds that complexity! Click here to continue
